Boston church gets hi-tech with donations

BOSTON (WHDH) -- Call it a sign of the times at Boston?s Cathedral of the Holy Cross. The church is offering a hi-tech way for church-goers to make an offering when they're short on cash.

?In today's world we're going to a cashless world, and it's just a swipe of the credit card,? said Robert Travers, pastoral association, Cathedral of the Holy Cross.

Along with credit cards, this kiosk also accepts debit cards in any currency. Right now, it isn't a very big hit. They've only had two donations, so many are sticking to tried and true giving methods.

?We're not pushing it. It's a kind of a service. We're bringing the church into the 21st century with technology and automated giving,? said Travers.

To many, it's a unique concept.

?That?s amazing. That is pretty amazing.?

?I wouldn't have imagined that.?

Many say it's a good thing.

?If they can make money, it's fine with me.?

?At least you don't have to make a change in the offering plate, and feel like a total idiot.?

But some, aren't so sure.

?I don't think that it's necessary.?

?Sometimes people give a little bit more loosely with the credit card.?

Another plus for the church is they'll now accept credit card any time of day, as long as the cathedral is open.
